The outstanding progress and commitment shown by SOS Systems’ IT specialist Cameron Heath has seen the 18-year-old shortlisted for an Apprentice of the Year honour by the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards.

Cameron, who lives in Rusper, originally joined the print and document management business as an apprentice two years ago as part of the government-funded ‘Just IT’ scheme, which combines on-the-job training with assignments and regular external assessments.

After passing with distinction, SOS Systems offered Cameron a full-time role and he has quickly become an integral part of the Crawley-based firm’s IT team, who nominated him for the award.

SOS Systems’ Head of Solutions, Gary Tomlinson, said: “Cameron’s development and success over the past two years have put him light years ahead of where we thought he would be. He is now a key member of our team and his fresh thinking and innovative ideas have played an integral part in improving our processes.”

He added: “Cameron has a full understanding of our business and values, can deliver excellent customer service and has a relentless drive to learn. The fact he has quickly become involved in major software upgrades with key clients is attest to his ability and talents.”

Cameron said: “Being able to quickly employ the knowledge I learned in the classroom in a supportive and dynamic business environment has been fantastic and being shortlisted for this award is really exciting.”

Since being shortlisted, Cameron has been interviewed by the judges of the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards. An award ceremony will take place at the Effingham Park Hotel in Gatwick on Thursday 21st March.
