Peloton for Patrick 2011
An intrepid group of cyclists will complete a gruelling coast to coast to bike ride over a weekend in July to raise fund for the Patrick Evans Foundation. The team of 6 will ride the 180 mile journey.
Travelling rom the Irish Sea at Morecambe to the North Sea at Bridlington, the cyclists will pass through the historic cities of York and Lancaster, and lesser known gems such as Settle, Pateley Bridge and Ripon.
Set-up in 2010 to celebrate the life of sports-loving Patrick Evans who tragically died whilst on a family skiing holiday, those behind The Foundation, inspired by Patrick’s thirst for life, have organised a long line of fundraisers, this being the latest.
The group includes local businessman, Chris Sills, director at SOS Systems in Crawley, the firm where Patrick’s father, Alun, is MD.
Commenting, Chris Sills, director at SOS Systems said: “There’s no doubt that this is going to be a huge undertaking. There’s one thing saying you’re going to do it and in contrast, it’s a stark reality the first time you mount the bike to the end of the road, never mind this 180 mile journey. I’ll be riding with a great bunch of people all with the same goal – to raise as much as we can for this fantastic cause.”

Carpe Diem – Local businessman completes the London Marathon for his son's Foundation
Running in his son’s memory, local businessman, Alun Evans, has raised over £7,000 for his son's foundation.
"Patrick died tragically following a skiing accident while on a family holiday in France. Since his death the generosity of his family and friends inspired us to set up a Foundation in Patrick’s memory, which will raise money for good causes that were important to him.
The marathon is just one of the many events that run throughout the year. I have to say, it was tough, it was a hot day, but running for the foundation along with the amazing support, kept me going. As for next year...maybe." Alun Evans.

Helping you run a more efficient business in 2011 and beyond. By Alun Evans, MD
Gatwick based print, scan and copying specialists, SOS Systems, have compiled a list of 10 tips that you can use to make your business more efficient in 2011 and beyond.
1. Be aware of running too many machines – the cumulative cost of running these in terms of toner, ink etc is likely to be inefficient, when you could possibly network printers with much lower running costs.
2. Are the right print jobs going to the right machines? Each printer is designed to deliver a certain quality and handle a target output – getting the right volume flow through the right machine can mean reduced costs.
3. Most businesses buy printers based on the initial capital expenditure, however it’s the consumable costs that is likely to define whether you’ve chosen wisely. It’s all too easy to overlook the consumable cost and not consider the actual cost over the period of the machine.
4. It might seem basic, but the positioning of your machines can be crucial. Consider who uses the machines the most frequently and position accordingly – it’s vital that you put a value on wasted time for your staff.
5. Do staff have access to your print facility for personal use? If so, you could be sponsoring their local cricket club, drama society etc…without even knowing it. Install a system with user ID and monitor each and every copy.
6. During the recession many businesses have downsized, putting space at a premium. Introduce a ‘scan to file’ facility and you’ll reduce the need for archiving and make key documents just a click away.
7. As with your staff, any down time is costly to a business. Make sure you look for a contract that includes remote diagnostics – this involves your machine provider monitoring the status of your equipment remotely. The benefit is simple – they will identify many faults before they effect the performance of the machines.
8. It’s about prevention, not cure. The right provider will have experience in machines from the best manufacturers and will, with the benefit of the likes of remote diagnostics, provide a preventative service program – reducing downtime and inconvenience to you and your operation.
9. If you are handling a high level of copying and scanning for clients, consider a charge-back system. Using the right machine, each job can be allocated to a client and added to their project fee.
10. Whilst you may be in a print, scan and copy contract, there is often an opportunity to buy yourself out of it, allowing you to enter into a new, more efficient agreement, negating the buyout cost.

Crawley Business Announces Expansion
SOS Systems, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of electronic office equipment, has, this week, announced the official launch of a new Copy, Print & Scan Bureau. The new service, SOS Copy, Print and Scan Bureau, is designed to help local businesses save money and assist them in promoting their business as we exit this recession.
SOS Systems, MD, Alun Evans, commented: “Having spent years working with local businesses equipping them with copiers and cost effective electronic office equipment, it was obvious to us that some businesses just wanted the occasional job, rather than investing in capital equipment. They were simply looking to generate some marketing material, or a batch or photocopying and couldn’t justify the investment on the specialist printers, scanners etc required. With this in mind, we’ve brought in a large range of equipment and a team of skilled staff each with many years experience, to work alongside local businesses. The team will work with these businesses to produce high quality marketing material, leaflets, brochures, posters etc from design through to production, as well as offering a fantastic and economical copying and scanning service.”
Sales Director at SOS, Chris Sills added: “We believe this launch is timely, as local businesses look to rise from this recession. The new SOS Copy, Print and Scan Bureau presents local businesses with a really exciting new service.” Following over £300,000 worth of investment, the SOS Copy, Print and Scan Bureau, is now the best equipped reprographic facility in the area.
